Plain Hunting
By alternately swapping three then two pairs as above, twelve 'changes' can be rung, one after the other, before ending back in rounds:
1 2 3 4 5 6
2 1 4 3 6 5
2 4 1 6 3 5
4 2 6 1 5 3
4 6 2 5 1 3
6 4 5 2 3 1
6 5 4 3 2 1
5 6 3 4 1 2
5 3 6 1 4 2
3 5 1 6 2 4
3 1 5 2 6 4
1 3 2 5 4 6
1 2 3 4 5 6
By ringing these rows, or 'changes', in succession, changing the order at each pull of the rope the pattern of sound is varied and most basic form of 'change ringing' is achieved. Each change is similar to a bar of music. Every bell must ring once only (at the same stroke as the rest) and can only ring again when all the bells have rung for that stroke.
