Bournville Carillon

Bournville Carillon

A carillon is a musical instrument of at least 23 bells, hung 'dead' and sounded by striking the bell with a mechanically operated clapper. The bells are arranged in a chromatic progression, including the 'accidentals', so that music can be played in any key. The carillon in this photograph is in the tower at Bournville in Birmingham.
